Foundation OpenWijs.nl

The not-for-profit foundation OpenWijs.nl is established in Maastricht, the Netherlands, to promote the concept of OLPC, to manage projects based on this educational concept and to broaden this concept to other target groups and regions. We are an official partner of OLPC and act as a link between NGO's and OLPC.

Our Mission
To realise good, affordable, electronic and open education, based on a fair, sustainable and multicultural educational concept.

    

Concept
Our educational concept is based on the OLPC concept, One Laptop Per Child. However we made an European version of this concept:

• start small and scale up fast: build a local organisation to support the teachers and pupils for many years
• collaborate with local partners (NGO's, educational institutes) which have proven to be reliable.
• the use of several types of hardware (with a preference of the XO) and
• several types of (open source) software (with a preference for Sugar and Edubuntu)
• several types of educational models (its the educational institute who chooses).
• we want to serve all ages: lifelong education
• we support parallel ICT-projects in health, agriculture and business development
• we work also in developed countries (especially for the poor areas)
